MMM: Moments to Remember

I haven't done a Monday Motherhood Musing for awhile... but I want to write up a couple of things Zeke has done recently that I don't want to forget.

Zeke is growing up fast. He is starting to get a little more steady when he's sitting.

As you know we moved just a couple of weeks ago so we are still in the process of unpacking and getting things settled in our new place. A couple of days ago I was in Zeke's room getting him up from his nap, two of his wall decorations were sitting on the little rubbermaid container by his bed. There happened to be a nail in the wall above his crib already, so I picked up the turtle (holding him on my hip on the other side) and hung it on the wall. He watched me and started smiling and laughing at the turtle on the wall. It was so cute. Then I walked over to his changing table and laid him down to change his diaper. As we were in the process, he craned his head all the way around to be able to look up at the wall where the turtle was still hanging. He thought it was funny and started laughing some more. The next several trips we took in and out of his room he always found the turtle and stared at it. He must like his room decorations!

Recently he has started holding out his left hand whenever he gets close to something he wants to touch. He holds his hand out sideways, palm facing in towards his body and wriggles his entire hand back and forth (almost like a "move it on closer" motion). It just melts me and I love to see him learning this new way of communicating that he wants something. He is getting very good at moving items back and forth between both hands. Recently I have started giving him his spoon after he's finished eating and he'll play with it; stick it in his mouth, move it between his hands, and, just last Thursday, bang it on his high chair. It helps me be able to clear the table and get him washed up while he stays entertained at the table for awhile. Actually, I think he would probably stay there longer and play if I let him. Sometime he will cry when I take his spoon away to get him out of his chair. So a couple of times I have just slid him in his chair over to the piano and played for him while he plays with his spoon and listens to the music.

Which also reminds me, I have started sitting him at the piano with me. It's a little challenging, but I'll usually try to balance him and play for him. If he's too wriggly I'll hold him with one arm and play with just one hand while he plays on the other side. We have fun making music and I'm trying to have some sort of "Music Moment" with him every day. We'll either dance to a song on the radio or I-pod or play music together on the piano or I will play him a song on the piano, like Mozart or teach him songs from one of the books I had growing up and sang out of at church. I truly hope he enjoys music as much as I do!

I love our little boy so much. Even though some days are getting harder because he is developing his own personality and resisting sleep more often, our days are also getting more fun because he IS developing his own personality, learning to communicate, and enjoying the world around him even more. I think we are moving into a very fun phase of growth and development and I love being a Mommy more every day!

To life... full of moments to remember!
