You help me bake and cook and enjoy going to Hy-Vee with Daddy so you can get the 25 cent gumball. You had only one front tooth for over 6 months and I was starting to get worried about it, and then just in the past few weeks all the missing ones, including that front one, have popped through -- woohoo! Some of your favorite foods are chips, chicken and dumplings (which we ate for your birthday party dinner), pad thai (from Tasty Thai), and breakfast sausages dipped into the yolks of fried eggs. You have really expanded your diet this past year and are eating a greater variety of veggies and foods. You love your Dozen a Day warm-ups for piano and take great pride in practicing them daily and then teaching them to your siblings if they're struggling with one of the exercises. You continue to love babies and I hear you say "Awwww!" whenever a little baby looks at you or is nearby. I look forward to the year ahead with you and can't wait to see all the ways you change and grow (and the things that stay the same)! Love, Mommy

We have a Teenager!

 Zeke you are13 years old! You have crossed into teenager and we think you are pretty great! Here's some of what you did over the previous year:

- We celebrated your birthday lunch at Red Robin! An ideal eating establishment for a growing boy -- unlimited fries and drinks!! But you did not want a birthday sundae or to be sung to in public, so we obliged.
- It was fun to set out your baby books, photo albums, and some of your collected items which best represent you, at your family birthday dinner. We ate ribs, green beans, and baked potatoes. You requested your favorite cake: Black Forest and Pop-Pop made cherry ice cream. We watched the Chiefs game while we ate.
- Daddy set up a wonderful becoming-a-man party for you! You went over to the Hollis Center for an evening of encouragement and speaking blessings over you as you turned 13, from some of the most important men in your life. You received manly gifts -- tools, guitar strings, books, etc. to set you up for success in the coming years. And then you, Daddy, Uncle Paul, Pop-Pop, and Uncle Gary all stayed the night! I

- We had a fun special time together at the very end of the year -- we went to Rochester for warm, fun drinks while sitting up high in the train car. And then going to Riley's Guitar Studio to check out amps, guitar straps, and more!
- Each Thanksgiving you  get better and better at making our family's favorite cranberry sauce! You've begun cooking dinner on Monday nights (Pasta night!) and it has been such a big help to me. And you seem to really enjoy it too -- both the cooking and the fact that you get to choose your own music :)
- You chose a new costume for Halloween this year -- A Giant T-Rex! It made such an impression everywhere we went: for trunk-or-treating and for Halloween night. I think you really enjoyed standing out. Plus it has an air pump inside that keeps it inflated and that made it more fun for you as well.
- Your love of books could be described with one word: voracious! You have them lined up alongside your bed to read and work through at bedtime. If you have any free time between subjects for school, you are often reading. You mostly prefer manuals of any sort, but you also enjoy graphic novels, comic books, and some chapter books.
- You are definitely growing! You continue to get taller and stronger and you are often asking for seconds and even thirds at meals. But I also find, that when you are full, you stop. I am so curious to see how tall you will be! {We shared these nachos at Ixtapa for our summer 'special time'.}
- You purchased your own cotton candy machine for your summer business. You enjoyed making cotton candy to order to any customers who stopped by! And then we'd often finish up business hours with making extra cotton candy for your siblings and cousin. It was a fun summer project!

- Spring 'special time' at Gusto! Coffee shop. We played games, had good drinks and food, and you built a giant magnetic masterpiece!

Your music skills are improving greatly! You took guitar lessons, every other week for a whole year! And you continue to practice and improve on piano. - Mimi reminded me of this picture from when you were 10 months old, living out in CO! So we recreated it at the Red Barn Farm this Fall -- 10 years later. I love it!
- You learned how to embroider this year -- you made a lotus as your first project and then this tea towel for Pop-Pop's birthday! You are beginning your hand at whittling. You are working on improving your skills on ukulele with YouTube videos and have advanced to level 2A in piano! - You are getting better at cooking and baking! You worked on browning ground beef, cooking pasta, reading recipes and measuring ingredients.

- You milked your first goat at Heather's house this summer! You continue to excel in taking care of animals and even just understanding them. You continue to read books to gain more knowledge about their care as well.

- You greatly enjoyed your 10 year old trip in May to Loveland, CO! We hung out with your CO cousins, Grandma, and great-Grandma, aunt and uncle; we spent a night up in Estes Park -- took a couple of hikes, soaked in the hot tub, ate pizza, ran a 5K (your first one!), watched the Duck Race; spent time with a family that is friends with our family; went to the arcade in Berthoud and spent some time around town seeing the duplex we lived in when you were born, going to the coffee shop, walking around to places we frequented your first year of life! It was a wonderful memory we made with you!

Levi, you are growing into a loving, caring, helpful, insightful, and focused boy! You take time to ask me how you can help me, you work hard at completing your school work each day, you are motivated to work and earn money, and you care very much about doing the right thing. You are a good friend -- listening and asking questions as well as sharing in conversations and paying attention to what others like or are interested in. I enjoy spending time with you on Friday afternoons -- taking walks, talking about what's going on in our lives, watching YouTube videos like Dude Perfect and Brave Wilderness, writing in our Mom/Son journal, playing PokƩmon, praying together, and staying connected! I love you so much! ~Mom
