Zoë is FIVE!

Happy 5th Birthday to our lovely Zoë Kayte!

We had a fun train ride over at the Line Creek trail

Our little nature journalist! We went to Line Creek trail for a family hike and you brought along your doodle pad of course. You climbed to the top of these steps and drew the trees and other things you saw. We recently bought you a pink hiking backpack to take on our nature and Wild+Free adventures this year so you can carry your own drawing supplies and water.

You are starting dance class at Diane's School of Dance this Fall! I can't wait to see you learn to dance and make new friends. You love to dance around the house with me and seem to have some natural rhythm and ability. When you are with Miriam, the two of you like to make up your own "dance recitals" for everyone to watch :) You are pretty shy when you're around new people, so I hope that you will give it a try even when you might be nervous.

I love our special times together! You like to go shopping, eat protein balls from Parkville Coffee, get hot cocoa (I convinced you to try a smoothie this time ^^ since it was summer), have tea parties, we visited your dance studio and other fun girlie things! I love spending time with you!

You are becoming a great big sister! You do a great job including Naomi in your playing, you are gentle with her, you speak clearly to her, and you genuinely seem to enjoy having her around.

You were very gentle with baby Wren.

One of our many trips to Line Creek Trail

One of hundreds of selfies :)

You love art very much! You have filled notebooks and notebooks with drawings! You like to paint, color, draw, write, and craft. I have purchased plenty of new art supplies for the school year ahead and I look forward to seeing the many things you create!

You are also pretty fearless! You don't mind catching creepy, slimy creatures, such as this toad above! We kept this one in a little habitat for several days. I think she stuck around for so long because you broke one of her legs and she couldn't hop away. You named her "Bowie" and loved carrying her around the yard. We'll have to work on the care of animals more before we let you have a pet of your own! You also like to catch worms and other bugs. You like butterflies and have put in a request of a kitty of your own. You want her to sleep in your bed. You've even been spending extra time with Dora, which I think is to show us that you really want a cat :)

You all think it's too funny when Marshall licks your swim suits after you've been playing in our pool.

Zoë, you don't mind getting dirty and having fun. You like to explore and walk and ride your bike and keep up with the boys. You like to be a little wild and crazy outside, but you also really like girlie things like tea parties, jewelry, tiaras, dolls, painting your nails, and dressing up. You've gotten much better at letting me do your hair each day so it stays out of your face. I did a pretty major hair cut earlier this summer, so it's short and bouncy now instead of getting caught under your armpits when you were swimming or wet. Still a struggle to brush your teeth every day, haven't figured that one out yet. But it's way better than it was a couple of years ago! The only toothpaste you like is the kid toothpaste from Young Living and we just ran out, so it's going to be interesting for awhile.

Easter Sunday 2020

You've really improved your bike riding skills! You don't like to go too fast, but your balance has improved and you are gliding more. I think you'll be ready to try a bike with pedals soon!

Before we cut your hair, it was long enough to do a nice fish braid!

This was an outfit I'd been saving for you that I wore when I was little. You're not a fan. All well. At least you let me get a picture of you in it once. And maybe I'll try again in the Fall...

You bring great joy and intensity to everything you do! I love to hear you laugh, especially when you're being tickled. We are working on deep breaths for when you get upset, which is also intense. It's been a long time, but you're finally getting to the point where you know that's what you're supposed to be doing even if you don't go ahead and get started. So I count that as progress! You tell me you want to do deep breaths with me, so maybe by this time next year you'll be doing them on your own and self-regulating even better. I'm sure it's hard to be a middle child and have to constantly share and risk things being taken from you. You are finally going to have a room to share with Naomi! We are setting it up across from our room and I think you are excited to have a space of your own to put your things and decorate and play and make your own. I think it will be a good step of independence for you!

I love your smile and spending time with you!

I have SO many selfies on my phone from you. I save the best ones, like this ^^ because they are little snippets from your point of view that I enjoy getting a glimpse of.

You are recognizing and writing all your letters quite well. You are a little card shark in our new Exploding Kittens game. I've been surprised by your strategy and ability to win all on your own. You seem to really enjoy playing games with your family. I'm excited for many game nights in our future. And I'll probably pick you to be on my team a lot :)

I can't wait to see how your relationship with your sister (and brothers!) grows over the coming years. I hope that you will be great friends and enjoy spending time with one another.

Let's remember some of the things you like best at age 5! Birthday Interview time!

 - Daddy? That he lets me watch one new movie, every single night, by myself. {To be clear, not all of this info is accurate :) but apparently, from her point of view, this is how she sees the world, ha!}
Mommy? Doing tea parties
- What is your favorite animal? Zebras and monkeys and cats
What are you most looking forward to about being 5? Getting some new necklaces. Because I really want some new necklaces and bracelets and make-up!
- What are you most excited about for Kindergarten? I'm excited about nothing. Cause I'm sad that I'm leaving. (She is referring to moving up at Kid City and doesn't want to be away from Miss Anna). In school, I looking forward to drawing pictures.
- What is your favorite thing to do every day? Getting presents! Ride my bike.

Zoë, I can't imagine my life without you. I love how you say you want "Huggies" when you're feeling upset. You picked out "Kitty" a year ago on your birthday and you love her as much, or more than ever before. You sleep with her every night and take her with you most everywhere. Sometimes you sit down at the piano and play little songs for us. You sing and dance and enjoy playing our instruments when we're all making music together. You do a great job setting the table for meals, but get a little distracted when we're done eating and end up running around more than helping to clear it off. But you will wash dishes for me from time to time, so that's a help! I can't wait to see what the year ahead holds and how you will grow and change. I love you dearly! Love, Mommy
